The Plant:
Our products are handcrafted from the seed pod of the Banksia grandis tree, also known as the Bull Banksia or Pulgarla/Boolgalla (local Noongar language). In Latin the word grandis means 'great' and refers to the size of the leaves.
The Banksia grandis is native to the southwest region of Western Australia (WA), making Margaret River the perfect location to harvest and make our Banksia products.
*Note: Our Banksia products are naturally formed and handcrafted; each piece will have its own slight unique variations in colour and grain. The above dimensions are approximate measurements only.
Sustainability
We hand-pick each Banksia pod with great care from its native bushland. The pods are only used after their seed has been released and therefore completed the life cycle of the plant. We then select suitable pods to be turned into coasters. They are a truly sustainable and natural product.
We are licensed through the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) in Western Australia to collect and harvest the Banksias. The DBCA highly regulates the collection of native flora to ensure conservation and sustainability.
